FIBROMYALGIA
What all sufferers from Fibromyalgia Ought to know about their Painful Condition!
You spend days and precious months running from doctor to doctor for help! Here’s Why!
Fibromyalgia has been called the “wastebasket” of diagnoses since there isn’t a single cause of fibromyalgia. Studies have shown that there are numerous causes from chemical changes in the brain, sleep disturbance, injury, infection, or abnormalities of the sympathetic nervous system. Because of the varied causes and wide discrepancy in symptoms fibromyalgia has been called a “wastebasket disease”. Furthermore, diagnosing fibromyalgia is difficult because there isn’t a specific laboratory test for it. Many of the tests and diagnostic procedures only rule out other conditions.
None can confirm fibromyalgia. Further complicating the problem is that the guidelines set up in 1990 by the The American College of Rheumatology have been too rigid since many fibromyalgia patients can have fibromyalgia even if you don’t meet the minimum of 11 of 18 tender spots in the body that are abnormally tender under relatively mild pressure.
Fibromyalgia testing overdiagnosis and undertreated!
There is a trend to over diagnose fibromyalgia when no other condition can be accurately diagnosed. According to Drs. Fitzcharles and Boulos in an article published in the British Society for Rheumatology
(Rheumatology 2003; 42: 263-2672003; 42: 263-267) people are being over-diagnosed with fibromyalgia, meaning in the absence of other explanation, more people are being diagnosed with the condition. That means that more and more people are still suffering from pain conditions but they are over diagnosing them because they do not know what else to label the condition. Yet, still regardless of the “label” of diagnosis, you still are in pain. Furthermore, this proves that accurate diagnosis is sometimes impossible and relief is still not an option yet!
Did you Know Fibromyalgia trigger points fall out on the same pathways of acupuncture pressure points ?
Pain according to Chinese Medicine causes obstruction to the flow of blood. “Blood Stagnation” as it is called causes undetected blockages to the flow of blood causing the tendons and muscles to become painful as consequence. In Chinese medicine it is enough to treat the condition as any pain condition by increasing blood flow to the areas of pain takinginto considerations the different aspects and manifestations of pain to provide comprehensive treatment.
Furthermore, all the classical trigger points during diagnosis are significant pre-existing acupuncture points that can be stimulated to increase blood flow to these areas of pain and reduce tender spots. By doing so acupuncture is able to decrease pain levels and reduces tender trigger point spots. Studies have found that acupuncture causes the body to release pain reducing substances in the blood which in turn reduce pain[1]. Additionally, major improvements were seen for anxiety and the fatigue associated with the condition which the Mayo Clinic highlighted [2].
Acupuncture treatment of patients with fibromyalgia is associated with decreased pain levels and fewer tender spots as measured by VAS (Visual analog scale) subjective rating form 1 to 10 by the patient on how severe the pain levels are) and dolimetry. This was accompanied by reduction in serotonin concentration in the platelets (which increase inflammation in the tissues of the muscle fibers) and an increase in serotonin and substance P levels in the serum (circulating blood levels). These results find that acupuncture makes changes in concentrations of pain modulating substances in the blood which led to a reduction of pain.
Fibromyalgia cure
Treatment includes:
- Acupuncture to desensitize trigger points.
- Acupuncture to improve sleep and enhance moods.
- Herbal formulas and supplements to help reduce reduce fibro fog, painful joints, depression, ibs, and chronic fatigue and depression.
- Gentle detoxification of excess Aluminum which builds up in the body to help the muscles and has been implicated in fibromyalgia. Studies have shown that aluminum toxicity and heavy metals impair the cognitive and memory problems that fibromylagia patients suffer with. Using gentle detoxification, the mental functions can be restored.
