Cause of Menopause: Low Estrogen –Not the full Story!

Low estrogen alone doesn’t often seem to induce hot flashes. Children and women have low levels of estrogen but don’t experience hot flashes. The hypothalamus affects the function of your body’s thermostat — the hypothalamus. This area at the base of your brain regulates body temperature and other basic processes. The estrogen reduction you experience during menopause is the spark that starts the disruption of thye hypothalamic function, leading to hot flashes.

Menopause is a transition time -Time to get your body ready for the next transition! Not just deal with symptoms.

Every 7 years according to Chinese medicine, a woman passes through a  health “gate”. The 7th cycle is typically the time when a woman’s menses stop so she can conserve her energy.  How well you pass through this gate, with health problems, will determine what the next 7 years may lead to. According to Chinese theory, a woman who transitions through this 7th gate is having deeper problems with her body. Deeper foundational energy has eroded and the coolant energy, or yin energy is weak, leading to disruptions in mood, affect, temperature regulation, bone health and sleep.

These energies must be restored for the body to optimally pass through this gate successfully, and shoring up the body’s energy so you can continue on through to the future.

Studies on Acupuncture

Evidence that Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine have been used for women’s health can be found in early medical literature dating back to 3 AD. But even current studies back up this claim:

  • Acupuncture has been clinically proven in many studies to reduce hot flashes and improve sleep[1][2].
  • Acupuncture has been proven to be able to change and regulate chemical and hormonal balances[3].
  • Acupuncture has been shown to be equal to effexor in the treatment of menopausal hot flashes[4].
  • 102 postmenopausal women were recruited into a study comparing the effects of acupuncture and placebo treatments. The study showed that acupuncture significantly reduced hot flashes more than placebo[5].
  • Another well-designed study that found that acupuncture is significantly more effective than placebo in treating hot flashes in postmenopausal women[6].
