Refresh your skin by supporting its natural renewal process
Fine lines, uneven texture, sun damage, acne scars, loss of firmness and other changes in your skin can become more noticeable over time.
Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), is a minimally invasive treatment designed to stimulate your skin’s natural healing response and encourage the production of collagen and elastin.
Whether you’re looking to address a specific skin concern or simply want your skin to look smoother, firmer, more supple and refreshed, treatment is personalized around your skin and your goals.
What Is Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT)?
During Collagen Induction Therapy (also known as microneedling), a specialized device containing very fine, sterile needles creates controlled microchannels in the skin. This process activates the body’s natural healing response and stimulates fibroblast cells involved in producing collagen and elastin, two proteins that play an important role in your skin’s structure, firmness and resilience.
Rather than creating an immediate cosmetic change through fillers, microneedling works gradually as the skin responds to treatment and new collagen develops.
Performed by Dr. Joshua Goldstein L.Ac. at Integrative Acupuncture Center in Ridgewood, NJ, treatment uses the Microessence 2.0, which combines microneedling with LED light and EMS technology.
What can microneedling help with?
-
By stimulating collagen and elastin production, microneedling can help soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while supporting smoother, firmer-looking skin.
-
Changes in collagen production are a natural part of aging. Microneedling can help support the skin’s firmness, texture and suppleness while addressing general signs of aging.
-
Microneedling encourages skin renewal and can help improve the appearance of uneven tone, age spots and visible signs of sun damage over time.
-
For patients dealing with acne scars or other texture irregularities, microneedling encourages the skin to rebuild and renew itself, creating a smoother, more even appearance.
-
As overall skin texture and collagen support improve, microneedling can also help reduce the appearance of enlarged pores.
What Does Treatment Involve?
Every treatment begins with a consultation to discuss your skin concerns, goals, and whether microneedling is appropriate for you.
During the procedure, a numbing cream is applied for comfort, your skin is prepared, and the treatment area is worked on in sections. Most patients describe the sensation as light vibrations rather than pain.
During treatment, the Microessence 2.0 device is moved across the treatment area to create controlled microchannels in the skin. The treatment also incorporates the device’s LED and EMS technology.
Most patients can expect some temporary redness or flushing afterward, similar in appearance to a mild sunburn.
Treatments are spaced 30 days apart, allowing time for collagen to regenerate between sessions. Your individual treatment plan will depend on your skin, the concerns being addressed and your goals.
Research into Collagen Induction Therapy has shown that a series of four microneedling sessions spaced one month apart generated up to a 400% increase in collagen and elastin deposition six months after treatment.
Aftercare
Your skin needs some extra care immediately following microneedling. You’ll receive personalized post-treatment instructions, but aftercare generally includes:
Gentle cleansing
Hyaluronic acid serum
Staying out of the sun on the day of your treatment
Using a mineral-based sunscreen daily after microneedling
We’ll also discuss when to resume your normal skincare routine based on your individual treatment and skin.
A Real Story: Rachel’s Journey to Skin Confidence
Rachel and Her Skin Confidence Journey
Rachel, 58, came to our clinic feeling frustrated with her skin. She was noticing deeper lines and loss of firmness, and the products she tried no longer seemed to help. She wanted to look refreshed, not “redone.”
We recommended a customized series of Collagen Induction Therapy sessions using our Microessence 2.0 device, which combines LED red light and EMS technology to boost collagen and tone the skin.
After just a few sessions, Rachel began to notice her skin looked smoother and felt firmer. By her fifth treatment, her fine lines had softened, and her natural glow had returned. She told us, “I finally feel like my skin reflects how vibrant I feel inside.”

For many women in their 50s and 60s, Collagen Induction Therapy is the perfect middle ground — powerful enough to deliver visible results, yet gentle enough to stay aligned with a holistic, natural approach to beauty. No chemicals. No surgery. Just your body’s natural wisdom doing the work.

Questions you may have:
What exactly is Collagen Induction Therapy, and how does it work?
Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), also known as microneedling, uses very fine sterile needles to create controlled microchannels in the skin.
These microchannels trigger the skin’s natural healing response, stimulating collagen and elastin production. Over time, that process can help improve firmness, texture and tone.
The Microessence 2.0 device used at Integrative Acupuncture Center also incorporates LED light and EMS technology into treatment.
Is microneedling right for everyone?
Microneedling can be a good option for many people looking to improve their skin's texture, tone, and overall appearance, but it isn't appropriate for everyone. Active skin infections, certain medical conditions, or recent skin treatments may mean postponing treatment or exploring another option. We'll review your health history and skin concerns during your consultation to determine whether microneedling is a good fit for you.
What skin concerns can microneedling address?
Microneedling can be used for a range of cosmetic skin concerns, including:
Fine lines and wrinkles
Acne scars
Enlarged pores
Uneven skin texture
Sun damage
Uneven skin tone
Loss of firmness or suppleness
General signs of aging
Your treatment plan will depend on your individual skin and what you’d most like to improve.
Can microneedling be combined with my skincare routine?
Yes. Microneedling can be combined with a personalized skincare routine, including natural serums when appropriate. You may continue using suitable products you already love, or serums are available for purchase at Integrative Acupuncture Center. We'll discuss which products are appropriate for your skin and when to use them before and after treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments depends on your individual goals and the condition of your skin.
For general facial rejuvenation, a series of 3-6 treatments is typically recommended. For more weathered or sun-damaged skin, acne-related concerns, or other conditions requiring additional attention, more than six treatments may be recommended, sometimes 8-12.
Treatments are spaced approximately 30 days apart, and your individual plan will depend on your skin and treatment goals.
Because collagen production and skin renewal take time, results develop gradually. Some patients begin noticing improvements in skin texture, tone, and firmness around 3-4 weeks after treatment, with further improvements developing over a series of sessions.
Is microneedling painful? Is there downtime?
A topical numbing cream is applied before treatment to minimize discomfort. You may still experience some tingling, warmth or sensitivity during the procedure.
Afterward, your skin may appear pink or flushed for approximately 24-48 hours. Many patients are able to return to their normal activities relatively quickly, although individual responses vary.
