Acupuncture is a method of healing based upon the idea of increasing blood flow and nerve flow to a problem area.
Increasing blood flow works by increasing your body’s blood flow and nerve flow to the body. By enhancing blood and nerve flow it pushes your body to work better at alleviating pain and restoring organ function.
By enhancing blood flow to your body, it starts to work better and function better and can reduce pain faster. It can cause your body to receive higher pain-relieving substances and an increased blood flow so you can reduce the pain and improve the functioning of the body.
The Modalities
ACUPUNCTURE
CHINESE HERBS
Cupping creates a suction on the skin and is used to increase lymphatic flow to the muscles. This helps to reduce spasm in the muscles so they feel looser. Muscles that can be treated with cupping are the upper traps and along the muscles of the spine, the glutes and in some people the quads and calves. Cupping does pull out lactic acid from the muscles and if you have a lot of lactic acid, you can get the presence of a “cup bruise” A cup bruise refers to any mark that has pulled out lactic acid sitting dormantly in the muscles. It is painless and can go away within 4 to 8 days. It is considered a good sign showing that you are helping the muscles rid themselves of the impurities that are keeping them tight by improving the circulation. If you are overly concerned about those marks, we can leave the cups on for only a few minutes to avoid any of these side effects or if it is an even bigger concern, we do not have to employ this therapy.
GUA SHA
Chinese herbal formulas are a combination of primarily plant-based ingredients that have nutritional and medicinal effects on the body. So when you drink or ingest a formula, those nutritional and medicinal properties are extracted by your digestive system and sent to the bloodstream and circulated to your body to facilitate organ healing and restore function to your body. People taking herbs usually get 40% to 45% increase in their results. Some maintenance work may be necessary to maintain the benefits after the condition is optimally treated. Chinese herbs that are used follow strict purity standards to ensure purity. From lab checks prior to harvesting to lab certification after processing, we can know what we are giving to you is pure and safe for consumption. Going over your list of medications and allergies is also factored in to see if there are any potential problems in taking herbs.
Vitamins can be very helpful when prescribed for the specific problem the patient is having. So many go to “specialty” centers” and leave with a bag full of vitamins. However, our approach we believe in recommending vitamins as needed by you. Remember we are not treating studies but we are treating you the patient. That can additionally aid in your recovery.
CUPPING
Gua sha or “muscle scraping,” uses a blunt edge like a chinese soup spoon to drudge the muscles in the neck and sides of hard-to-reach places like the elbow or calves to encourage lymphatic flow to reduce muscle spasm. A lubricant such as massage oil or moisturizer is used to help glide the spoon over the muscle to induce more circulation. One unique advantage of gua sha is that it can get at hard-to-reach places where cups cannot reach, such as the neck and inner arm, and around the scapulae for example. Gua sha is painless and can also leave some red or pink marks showing that lactic acid and other impurities that are dormant in the muscle have been expelled, leaving the muscle more supple and flexible. Gua Sha used on the body regularly, can untangle knotted areas and release built-up muscular tension.
Facial gua sha applied to the face can eliminate fluid build-up, which in turn reduces puffiness. A special rubberized small cone is used to make gentle “kiss” marks with minimal pressure on the face to accomplish this lymphatic massage. Participants report the procedure relaxing with zero pain or permanent marks. A red hue on the face can occur which is normal. Typically to “shape” the face, specialized acupuncture needles would be better suited for more specific work on reducing signs of aging and wrinkles.

The Results
“He really takes the time and effort to understand your problems and uses his expertise to fix them"…”
“I'm a true believer in the benefits of acupuncture. And Joshua Goldstein and Integrative Acupuncture have been incredibly helpful to me and my wife the past 4-5 years. Joshua has helped us treat muscle aches, herniated discs, migraines, anxiety/stress, and other random health/dietary issues. I have been seeing Joshua on an almost weekly basis the past few years and that hour is one of the most relaxing / therapeutic things I do for myself each week. He tailors his treatments to my individual issues and for those who have never tried acupuncture before after 1 or 2 sessions you barely feel the needles anymore - in fact most weeks, I sleep during my treatment. Then in the days/weeks after treatment, I find my body has more energy, less aches/pains, and lower levels of stress. Give it a try ! you won't be disappointed. Joshua is an amazing acupuncturist. He really takes the time and effort to understand your problems and uses his expertise to fix them.”
